Huynh Sets High Jump Mark, Earns All-New England Honors at DIII New Englands

BOSTON, Mass. -- Freshman Alex Huynh (Stoughton, Mass.) broke his own school record and earned All-New England honors in the high jump to lead the Bridgewater State University men's track & field team on Saturday during the second and final day of the Division III New England Indoor Championships held at The Track at New Balance.

Huynh placed second in the high jump with a leap of six feet, 8.75 inches (2.05m) as he eclipsed his previous school indoor standard of six feet, 7.5 inches (2.02m) recorded earlier this season at the Reggie Open.

Senior Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) also garnered All-New England accolades for the Bears as he place seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.10.

The top eight placewinners in each individual event at the championship meet earn All-New England status.

The Bears' 4x400-meter relay squad featuring sophomore Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.), graduate student Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) and juniors Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.) and Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) finshed 15th in the event with a time of 3:26.10.

Mooney also finished 17th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.13 seconds, while Matias was 33rd in the 200 with a PR of 22.55 seconds.

The Bears placed tenth in the team standings at the meet with 20 points. Amherst College won the team title with 109 points while MIT (92 pts.) and Tufts University (82 pts.) rounded out the top three teams.

Qualifying members of the BSU men's track & field team with compete on Friday and Saturday at the NEICAAA Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center.
