Stalters Leads Men's Track & Field at Springfield College Classic

Senior Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) captured top honors in the javelin with a toss of 200 feet, two inches (61.02m) as he hit the 200-foot mark for the first time this season. Stalters also placed third in both the shot put (42'0.5"/12.81m) and the discus throw (137'8"/41.98m).
Junior Jason Dann (Reading, Mass.) won the hammer throw with a heave of 154 feet, eight inches (47.14m) and finished fourth in the discus (136'9"/41.68m).
Junior Thomas Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted the top performance in the high jump with a leap of six feet, 0.75 inches (1.85m). Barinelli also placed third in 110-meter hurdles with a finals time of 15.73 seconds.
The Bears' 4x100-meter relay squad featuring Barinelli, junior Michael Young (Shrewsbury, Mass.), sophomore Nathan Candido (Taunton, Mass.) and senior Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) finished second in the event with a time of 43.19 seconds.
Senior Blake Kerwin (Rehoboth, Mass.) was runner-up in the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 3.75 inches (6.80m).
Sophomore Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) posted a time of 1:57.18 to placed third in the 800-meter run.
McBirney, freshmen Michael Neitlich (Middleboro, Mass.) and Drew Roberts (Manchester, N.H.), and junior Sam Steere (West Kingston, R.I.) placed third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:37.02.
Senior Jack Galvin (Braintree, Mass.) finished fourth in both the shot put (42'0.5"/12.81m) and hammer throw (144'9"/44.13m), while freshman Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.92).
Stalters (JV, DT), Dann (DT, HT), Kerwin (LJ), Barinelli (110H), McBirney (800) and King (110H) all recorded Division III New England Championships qualifying performances. Stalters also posted a qualifying mark in the javelin for the NEICAAA Championships.
The Bears will compete next Friday and Saturday at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.
