Men’s Track & Field Competes at UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track and field team competed on a rainy and windy Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.

The Bears won three events at the meet, placed second in three others, and added a pair of third-place performances.

Freshman Michael Neitlich (Middleboro, Mass.) captured top honors in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of one-minute flat, while sophomore Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) tied for first in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 22.99 seconds.

The Bears' foursome of junior Michael Young (Shrewsbury, Mass.), sophomore Nathan Candido (Taunton, Mass.), senior Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) and junior Thomas Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed first in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 44.39 seconds.

Barinelli also placed second in both the long jump (19'11.75"/6.09m) and the 110-meter hurdles (16.58).

Sophomore Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.92. Freshman Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) placed third in both the high jump (5'5"/1.65m) and the 110-meter hurdles (17.31).

Young, Matias; freshman Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.); senior Blake Kerwin (Rehoboth, Mass.); and juniors Jonathan Quigley (Haverhill, Mass.), Jason Dann (Reading, Mass.) and Nathaniel Packer (Tisbury, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' top five performers.

Young and Matias finished fourth (11.58) and fifth (11.59), respectively, in the 100-meter dash. Grace was fourth in the triple jump (36'7.25"/11.16m), while Kerwin placed fourth in the long jump (19'0.75"/5.81m) and Quigley posted a fourth-place performance in the shot put (40'1.5"/12.23m). Dann and Packer finished fourth (140'1"/42.71m) and fifth (133'5"/40.66m), respectively, in the hammer throw.

Next Saturday, the Bears travel to Springfield, Massachusetts for the Springfield College Classic.
