Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Competes at Jerry Gravel Classic

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team competed on Saturday afternoon at the non-scoring Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University.

BSU sophomore Exondus Barnes (East Providence, R.I.) captured top honors in both the long jump and the high jump. Barnes posted a career-best mark of 22 feet, 7.25 inches (6.89m) in the long jump, and recorded a height of six feet, four inches (1.93m) in the high jump.

Sophomore Jacob Belcher (Halifax, Mass.) won the hammer throw with a career-best toss of 137 feet, one inch (41.79m), while Joseph Zingarelli (North Kingston, R.I.) placed first in the pole vault with a season-best vault of 12 feet, 11.5 inches (3.95m).

Sophomore Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' field event winners in the javelin with a mark of 173 feet, 11 inches (53.00m).

The Bears also won five track events led by sophomore Dimetri Morris (North Andover, Mass.). Morris placed first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.49), and also ran a leg on the  winning 4x100-meter relay team. Morris, fellow sophomores Blake Kerwin (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.), and freshman Michael Young (Shrewsbury, Mass.) posted a time of 43.73 seconds.

Freshman Noah Lanner (Hull, Mass.), senior Kester Kafeero (Peabody, Mass.), sophomore Cameron Riley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and junior Shawn Driscoll-Gomez (Medford, Mass.) teamed up to win the 4x400-meter relay with a season-best time of 3:47.96.

Senior Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Thomas Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) capped off the Bears' event winners. Wysong was the first to cross the finish line in the 10,000-meter run (36:27.05), while Barinelli placed first in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.63).

Following an off-weekend, the BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships hosted by Westfield State on Saturday, May 1st at 10:00 AM.
