Michael McPherson Named MASCAC Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University junior Michael McPherson has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.

McPherson posted a first place finish in the shot put with a distance of 51 feet, 11.00 inches (15.82 meters) at the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational this past weekend.  The Mansfield, Massachusetts native also earned a second place showing in the hammer throw with a toss of 166 feet, 2.00 inches (50.66 meters).

Earlier this season, McPherson eclipsed the BSU outdoor marks in both the shot put (52’0.50”) and hammer throw (170’8.00”) at the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational. He qualified for three postseason meets (DIII New Englands, ECAC & NEICAAA) in each event.

McPherson also holds the Bears’ indoor shot put mark with a distance of 50 feet, 11.50 inches. He broke the record four times this past winter capped off by an All-ECAC performance at the ECAC Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The outdoor season continues for the BSU track and field teams on Saturday as the Bears will compete at the MIT Invitational.
