Will Horton Named Little East Men's Tennis Player & Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman Will Horton has been selected as both the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman Will Horton has been selected as both the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week.
A native of Lakeville, Massachusetts, Horton went undefeated on the week as he posted a 2-0 record at number one singles and finished 3-0 at second doubles in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears.
Horton notched a 6-0, 6-4 straight set win over Aidan Burke at #1 singles and teamed with senior Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.) for a 6-4 triumph at second doubles in the Bears' 7-0 Little East victory over Western Connecticut State University. He also earned a 6-1, 6-1 straight set win over Thai Nguyen at the top singles flight in the Bears' 6-1 victory over Thomas College, and teamed with Hebert for a 6-1 triumph at second doubles against the Terriers.
Horton paired with classmate Ryan Abreu (Lakeville, Mass.) for a 6-0 win at second doubles in the Bears' 6-1 win over Curry College.
In BSU's nine matches this season, Horton is 5-3 (2-0 LEC) in singles play competing exclusively at the top flight as well as 5-3 (2-0 LEC) in second doubles competition.
The Little East Player of the Week selection marks the second of the season for Horton while the LEC Rookie of the Week honor is his third.
The BSU men's tennis team is currently 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in the Little East. The Bears travel to Salem State University on Wednesday for a three o'clock Little East match with the Vikings.
