Men's Tennis Opens Spring Semester with 7-0 Win Over Wentworth

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team swept it way to victory in the spring semester opener.

The Bears blanked the Wentworth Institute of Technology, 7-0, at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts Thursday afternoon.

BSU (1-1) had opened its season with a 6-0 loss to Emerson College last October.

The Bears had lost six of the last eight meetings with the Leopards (1-1) dating back to 2015.

Winning singles matches for BSU were freshman Will Horton (Lakeville, Mass.), senior Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.), junior Tom Ayson (Plymouth, Mass.), junior Khiem Nguyen (Burlington, Mass.), junior Anthony Lucas (Weymouth, Mass.) and senior Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.).

Horton picked up his first collegiate win, 6-0, 2-6, 6-1, over Andre Juscamaita at No. 1 singles.

Beatrice won at No. 2 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5, over Rene Rodriguez while Ayson took No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2, over Eric Sechen.

The win marked the 20th career singles victory for Beatrice who is 20-15 in four seasons with the Bears.

At No. 4 singles, Nguyen defeated James Weete, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 10-3.

Lucas was a winner at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2, over Chris Hu and Hebert took No. 6 singles over Noah Tarring, 6-0, 6-2.

Horton and Hebert won at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, over Weete and Sechen while Ayson and Lucas prevailed at No. 3 doubles, 6-0, over Hu and Tarring.

BSU is home Wednesday against Wheaton College at 3 p.m.
