BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Matthew Jo has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Rookie Swimmer of the Week.
Making his collegiate debut, Jo captured top honors in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.05 in the Bears' 184-78 setback to Eastern Connecticut State. The Tewksbury, Massachusetts product also placed second at the meet in the 1,000 freestyle (11:05.83) and swam the anchor leg (23.82) on the fifth-place 200 freestyle relay (1:45.88).
This past weekend, Jo added a second-place performance in the Bears' tri-meet split with Keene State and Brandeis as he posted a time of 5:10.92 in the 500 freestyle. Jo also finished third in the 200 freestyle (1:56.13) at the meet and swam the anchor leg (24.03) on the second-place 200 freestyle relay squad as well as the backstroke leg (28.37) on the fifth-place 200 medley relay team (1:52.96).
The Little East Rookie of the Week honor marks the first of Jo's career.
In upcoming action, the BSU swimming and diving teams host Division II Bentley University on Wednesday evening at six o'clock.
