BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University junior goalkeeper Kyle Sullivan has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Sullivan went 2-0 between the pipes during the Bears MASCAC Tournament title run last week with a shutout, ten saves, a .909 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average. The Enfield, Connecticut product made six saves in a 4-1 semifinal round win over Salem State and turned aside four shots in a 1-0 championship game shutout of Mass. Maritime.
In 18 games (all starts) this season, Sullivan is 13-4-1 with eight shutouts and a 1.35 goals against average in 1,597 minutes of work. He has turned aside 47 shots and currently sports a .662 save percentage.
Sullivan leads the MASCAC in both wins and shutouts. He is also tied for first among the conference goaltending leaders in games played and game started, and ranks second in minutes played as well as third in goals against average.
On a national level, Sullivan is tied for 19th in all of Division III in shutouts.
The MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week honor marks the second of Sullivan's career. He also earned the honor back on September 29th.
The BSU men's soccer team is currently 13-5-1 on the season. By virtue of the MASCAC Tournament championship, the Bears advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the eighth time in program history and second in the last three years. Bridgewater will take on Rowan University in opening round play on Saturday, November 15th at 1:30 PM on the campus of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.
