NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University men's soccer team closed its non-conference schedule in style Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Sullivan (Enfield, Conn.) recorded his sixth shutout as the Bears edged the Coast Guard Academy, 1-0, at Nitchman Field.
BSU improved to 9-5-1 and has gone 4-0-1 in its last five games.
Sullivan and the Bears have posted six shutouts in the past eight games, losing only once in that stretch.
After a scoreless first half, BSU netted the game-winning goal at 64:40 when junior Connor Wesloski (Wilbraham, Mass.) picked up his first goal of the season.
Wesloski headed home a cross from freshman Ansley Glemaud (Dorchester Center, Mass.).
Sullivan made two saves while recording his second shutout in five days.
Coast Guard senior Jack Putnam (Halfmoon, N.Y.) stopped three BSU shots.
Coast Guard began the day in first place in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference at 3-0-1 and is now 7-4-3 overall. It was just the second home loss in seven games for Coast Guard.
The game was the first between the two programs in 10 years.
The Bears play their final regular-season road game next Saturday, traveling to Fitchburg State for an 11 a.m. matchup.
Coast Guard has a NEWMAC game on Wednesday at 4 p.m., hosting Salve Regina.
