BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's soccer team dropped its second straight home game on Friday night.

The Bears were stopped by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 3-1, at Mazzaferro Field to fall to 2-3 and 1-1 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Entering the night, BSU had lost just one of its previous 19 MASCAC regular-season games.

The Bears are now 34-8-4 in its series with the Buccaneers dating back to 1980. The last time Maritime defeated Bridgewater State was in 2013, a 1-0 overtime victory.

Mass. Maritime is off to a 4-0-1 start, including 2-0 in the MASCAC.

The Buccaneers scored three times in the first half while the Bears did not get on the scoreboard until less than 15 minutes remained.

BSU had a 23-6 advantage in shots and and 11-3 edge in shots on goal.

Mass. Maritime took a 1-0 lead 4:05 into the game on an unassisted goal by Brody Calvert (Windsor, Mass.).

A turnover led to the goal as Calvert intercepted a pass, dribbled in from the left side and scored on a shot from in close from a tough angle.

Calvert made it 2-0 at 14:11 with his sixth goal of the season, assisted by junior Jack Turmel (West Springfield, Mass.) and junior Thomas O'Neil (Quincy, Mass.).

A pass from Turmel split a pair of BSU defenders outside the 18. Calvert dribbled to the left side and sent a shot towards the back post where the Bears' goalkeeper had vacated.

An own goal at 33:46 gave the Buccaneers a 3-0 lead. There was miscommunication between a defender and the goalkeeper and a pass back to the keeper went into the net.

The Bears got on the scoreboard at 77:46 with senior Filippo Mucci (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) netting an unassisted goal.

A direct kick from Mucci, a low shot from 20 yards out, went in just inside the left post.

Mass. Maritime sophomore goalkeeper Preston Joia (Mashpee, Mass.) made 10 saves in a terrific performance.

BSU's junior goalkeeper Kyle Sullivan (Enfield, Conn.) did not make any saves, facing just three shots in the first half.

The Bears have a non-conference game on Tuesday, traveling to Wheaton College for a 4 p.m. matchup.

Mass. Maritime is at Suffolk on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
