Michael Lofton Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season and an impressive seventh time in his career, Bridgewater State University senior forward Michael Lofton has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season and an impressive seventh time in his career, Bridgewater State University senior forward Michael Lofton has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
A native of Mansfield, Massachusetts, Lofton averaged 19 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals while shooting 65 percent (13-20) from the floor in a 2-0 week for the Bears.
Lofton posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 79-73 win over Wheaton College. He also tallied 17 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals in an 81-78 victory on the road over UMass Dartmouth.
In five games this season, Lofton is averaging 19 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.2 steals. He is also shooting 65% (37-57) from the floor and 70% (21-30) at the free throw line.
In 86 games over four seasons with the Bears, Lofton has amassed 1,118 points, 690 rebounds, 139 assists, 133 blocked shots and 153 steals. He is currently the Bears' all-time leader in field goal percentage (.632), and is tied with former standout Peter Santos (2001-05) for the all-time lead in blocked shots with 133. Lofton also ranks 23rd amongst the team's career scoring leaders.
The BSU men's basketball team is currently 4-3 on the young season. The Bears host MIT on Saturday afternoon at one.
