Men's Basketball Posts 69-61 Win over Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Sophomore forward Anthony Fortes (East Providence, R.I.) scored 15 points and added seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals to lead the Bridgewater State University Bears to a 69-61 win over the Trinity College Bantams in men's basketball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium.

The Bantams fall to 10-8 with the loss, while the Bears improve to 11-6 on the season.

Trinity and Bridgewater traded baskets early in the game with the Bears holding a 30-29 lead with 3:30 remaining in the first half.  A three-pointer by senior forward Nicholas Motta (Fairhaven, Mass.), a pair of free throws each by Fortes and junior center Max Dolgin (Randolph, Mass.) and another three from senior guard Corey Connor (Providence, R.I), helped the Bears close out the opening stanza with a 10-3 run to head to the locker room with a 40-32 advantage.

Trinity kept pace to open the second half, thanks to key long range shooting from sophomore Mick DiStasio (Yarmouth, Maine), keeping the Bantams within six points, 51-46, with ten minutes remaining in the game.

Junior forward Nathan Miller (New Bedford, Mass.) hit a three-pointer for the Bears, followed by a jumper from sophomore guard Shawn Yard (Brockton, Mass.) to up the lead to ten at 56-46.  Trinity would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way as the Bears would go on to ice their fourth win in five games.

Motta would finish with a game-high 19 points to go along with four rebounds.  Yard added 14 points, four boards and a pair of steals, while Miller came off the bench to score nine points and grab four rebounds (three offensive) in just 15 minutes.

DiStasio equaled Motta's game-high 19 points while senior Luke MacDougall (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) scored 14 points.  DiStasio connected on an impressive six of eight three-point attempts, including four in the second half, while MacDougall added seven rebounds for the Bantams.

Trinity shot 30 percent from the floor in the game and just 24 percent in the second half, while the Bears hit 47 percent of their shots in the game.

Notes: With his 19 points, Motta increased his career scoring total to 1,237 as he moved past John McSharry (1,230) into 14th place on the Bears' all-time scoring list.
