BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior punter Shane Drake has been selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week.
Drake averaged 45.0 yards on five punts with a long of 60 in the Bears' season-opening 41-27 setback to MIT. Three of his five punts landed inside the 20 and the Engineers averaged just 5.3 yards on three returns.
In 22 games over three seasons with the Bears, Drake is averaging 42.8 yards on 44 career punts with 18 inside the 20 and 15 punts of 50-plus yards. He is currently the Bears' all-time leader in punting average.
Last year, Drake set the Bears' single-season punting record as he averaged 42.5 yards on 39 punts.
The BSU football team will entertain the Engineers of WPI on Friday night (Sept. 8) at seven o'clock. Prior to the start of the game, the turf field at the Swenson Athletic Complex will officially be named in honor of legendary Bridgewater State football coach Peter Mazzaferro.
