Shane Drake Named MASCAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior kicker and punter Shane Drake has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Special Teams Player of the Week.
Drake converted both of his field goal attempts (23, 21) and averaged 44 yards on four punts with two inside the 20 in the Bears’ 40-27 MASCAC win on the road over Western Connecticut State University. The Franklin, Massachusetts product also averaged 58.6 yards on eight kickoffs.
Through four games this season, Drake is a perfect 3-for-3 in field goal attempts and has converted 8 of 10 extra points. He is also averaging 40.5 yards on 15 punts with a long of 59 and four inside the 20, and is averaging 59.2 yards on 23 kickoffs with one touchback.
Drake is currently tied for the MASCAC lead in made field goals and field goal percentage (100%). He also ranks third in punts inside the 20 and fourth in punting average.
The MASCAC Special Teams Player of the Week distinction marks the first of Drake’s career.
The BSU football team is currently 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in the MASCAC. The Bears welcome Fitchburg State University to Swenson Field on Saturday for Homecoming. Kickoff is slated for four o’clock.
