In their very first season as a club program, the Bridgewater State men’s club volleyball team accomplished something most new teams only hope for—earning a spot in the playoffs. What started as a group of players coming together to build something from the ground up quickly turned into a competitive and cohesive unit. With a mix of experienced upperclassmen leadership and talented underclassmen stepping into big roles, the team developed chemistry fast and proved they could compete with more established programs.

 

The freshman class made an immediate impact, bringing energy and fearlessness to the court. Outside hitter Andrii Dubas emerged as a reliable offensive option, while opposite Lucas Duarte added versatility and strength on both sides of the ball. In the middle, Ayden Monteiro showed strong net presence, contributing key blocks and quick attacks that helped control momentum during tight matches. Their ability to adapt to the college level so quickly played a major role in the team’s early success.

 

Sophomore leadership also helped stabilize the team throughout the season. Libero Damian Gonzalez anchored the defense with consistent passing and hustle, while setter Daymond Nguyen played a crucial role in running the offense, distributing the ball effectively and keeping hitters involved. Middle blocker Liam Doucet added depth at the net, combining solid blocking with timely offensive contributions. Together, this group helped balance the team and maintain composure in high-pressure situations.

 

The junior class brought experience and scoring power. Outside hitters Drew Ogbewe and Simon Benton were key offensive weapons, stepping up in big moments and delivering points when the team needed them most. Their ability to lead by example and perform under pressure gave the team confidence against tougher opponents and helped push them into playoff contention.

 

At the core of the team’s success were the senior captains, Nolan Duffy and Braden Boucher. As leaders both on and off the court, they set the tone for the program’s culture and work ethic. Duffy, holding it down in the middle, provided leadership at the net with strong blocking and smart play, while Boucher led the offense from the outside with consistency and determination. Their guidance helped unify the team and establish a foundation for future seasons.

 

Making the playoffs in their inaugural year is a huge milestone for Bridgewater State men’s club volleyball. It not only reflects the talent on the roster but also the commitment, teamwork, and leadership that defined their season. With such a strong start, the program has set high expectations moving forward and built a solid foundation for continued success.
