BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University takes on nationally ranked Tufts University in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament on Thursday night at seven o'clock from Tufts' Cousens Gynasium in Medford, Massachusetts.
The MASCAC champion Bears are currently 17-4 on the season while the NESCAC champion Jumbos check in at 22-5 overall. Tufts was ranked 14th in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division III Poll.
Tonight's match marks the first meeting of the two teams since 2012. The Bears and the Jumbos met 23 times between 1994 and 2012 with Tufts winning all 23 matchups including a 3-0 victory in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Tournament in Medford.
The Bears are making their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 12th in program history.
The Jumbos are making their 13th NCAA appearance and first since 2023.
There are eight teams competing at the three-day Tufts Regional with six of the eight squads in the top 45 of the NPI Division III rankings. East Texas Baptist University (31-0) leads the way at #1 in all of Division III followed by #10 Tufts, #22 Kean University, #29 Emory University, #38 Springfield College and #42 Lasell University. Bridgewater State and Maine Maritime Academy round out the eight-team field.
