SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at a tri-match hosted by Mount Holyoke College.

The Bears dropped a 3-1 decision to the host Lyons and bowed to Fisher College, a 3-0 victory.

The Bears see their record go to 10-9 with the two setbacks.

Mount Holyoke 3, Bridgewater State 1

Mount Holyoke (12-11) defeated BSU, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-13.

Sophomore Lily Welch (Hanson, Mass.) had 17 digs and 10 kills for the Bears while sophomore Ava Crane (Dartmouth, Mass.) added 10 digs and eight kills.

Sophomore Lilly Misay (New Bedford, Mass.) contributed 15 digs and sophomore Xin Ai Robinson (Kaiserslautern, Germany) had 14 assists.

Graduate student Bethany Votta (Cumberland, R.I.) had 11 assists and freshman Charlotte Sullivan (Hyannis, Mass.) had four block assists.

For Mount Holyoke, junior Sadie Duffrin (Minneapolis, Minn.) had 32 assists and nine digs while junior Madeline Barton (Brookfield, Wis.) added 18 kills and 11 digs.

BSU held a 5-4 lead early in the first set, but Mount Holyoke took a 12-7 edge and never let the Bears get any closer than four.

BSU jumped to a 4-1 lead in the second set and was ahead, 13-9. The set ended with three attack errors.

The Bears were ahead 9-3 in the second set and went up, 22-17, on a kill by junior Kim Gowell (Durham, N.H.). But Mount Holyoke outscored BSU, 8-1, the rest of the way.

The Bears fell behind, 5-1, in the fourth set and trailed, 14-5, as they never led.

Fisher 3, Bridgewater State 0

The Falcons won by scores of 27-25, 25-22 and 25-16.

Sophomore Xin Ai Robinson (Kaiserslautern, Germany) had had 11 assists and 10 digs for the Bears and sophomore Lily Welch (Hanson, Mass.) added eight digs and seven kills.

Sophomore Lilly Misay (New Bedford, Mass.) had 13 digs and sophomore Ava Crane (Dartmouth, Mass.) added 12 digs.

Graduate student Bethany Votta (Cumberland, R.I.) had 10 assists and junior Meaghan Coutu (Brookline, N.H.) had six kills.

Fisher closed out the first set with three straight points, including two on attack errors.

The second set was tied at 17-17 and 22-22 before Fisher scored the last three points, two on attack errors.

The Bears never led in the final set.

BSU finishes the regular season on Saturday when it faces the Massachusetts Maritime Academy on the road at noon.
