Women's Swimming & Diving Places Third at Little East Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team finished third in the 11-team Little East Conference Championships.

Bears senior Cailey Simard (Haverhill, Mass.) was selected the conference's Diver of the Year for the fourth season in a row.

Simard won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events all four years at the Little East Meet.

Freshman Sienna DeLucia (Wallingford, Conn.) earned LEC Rookie Diver of the Year honors. DeLucia placed second on the one-meter board during the championship meet.

BSU had 487 points and finished behind Eastern Connecticut State (839.5) and Keene State (529). The Bears had placed second four consecutive years.

The four-day event concluded on Sunday night with six BSU swimmers competing.

In the 100-yard freestyle, senior Ava Fenton (Monument Beach, Mass.) was fourth in 56.29 while sophomore Evangelina Chaves (Raynham, Mass.) took eighth in 57.69.

Senior Julie Remson (Norwalk, Conn.) was fifth in the 50 backstroke in 28.94 while freshman Morgan Maher (Dighton, Mass.) placed eight in the 200 breaststroke in 2:45.79.

Senior Emily Bradford (Pittsfield, Mass.) finished 10th in the 1,650 in 20:17.35 while teammate Nellie Peecher (Barrington, R.I.) was 15th in 21:27.19.

The Bears' 400 freestyle relay squad featuring Chaves, Remson, Maher and Fenton finished sixth in the event with a time of 3:55.26.
