Simard Eclipses One-Meter Mark as Women's Swimming & Diving Places Third at BSU Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior Cailey Simard (Haverhill, Mass.) broke her own school record while winning an event for the Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team on Saturday.

Simard placed first in the 1-meter diving event for the Bears at the annual BSU Invitational held at the Dr. Mary Jo Moriarty Swimming Pool.

Simard registered 339.85 points for the six dives, surpassing the record of 320.90 she established in 2024.

BSU finished third in the seven-team field with 386.5 points, trailing Westfield State University (496) and Gordon College (411).

Western New England (253.5) was fourth followed by Rhode Island College (164), the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (163) and Plymouth State (138).

The Bears had won the BSU Invitational seven straight times.

BSU swept the top four spots in the 1-meter diving with Simard being followed by freshman Sienna DeLucia (Wallingford, Conn.), who had 259.10 points, sophomore Gianna Varady (Highland Park, N.J.), who had 241.95 points, and junior Ava Anderson (Lynn, Mass.), who had 213.20 points.

Varady was the winner in 3-meter diving with 277.46 points with Simard second (267.70) and Anderson third (178.40).

Senior Julie Remson (Norwalk, Conn.) placed second in three events for BSU.

She was second in the 50 backstroke in 29.47 seconds, the 100 backstroke in 1:03.44 and the 100 individual medley in 1:07.35.

Senior Ava Fenton (Monument Beach, Mass.) also placed in three events for the Bears.

Fenton was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.00 and third in the 50 butterfly (28.00) and the 100 freestyle (58.47).

Senior Emily Bradford (Pittsfield, Mass.) took second in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 20:53.56 and was fifth in the 500 freestyle in 6:11.21 while taking sixth in the 50 breaststroke in 37.19.

Freshman Morgan Maher (Dighton, Mass.) took third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.58 while junior Nellie Peecher (Barrington, R.I.) finished third in the 1,650 in 21:03.51 and fourth in the 200 backstroke in 2:35.92.

Sophomore Eva Chaves (Raynham, Mass.) was fourth in the 200 individual medley in 2:36.64 and sixth in the 400 individual medley in 5:36.79.

Freshman Namh Fallon (Ayer, Mass.) scored points with a sixth-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:20.90.

BSU will resume the schedule in the second semester, hosting Brandeis and Keene State on Jan. 17 at noon.
