BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team completed the home portion of its schedule with a loss to a nationally ranked opponent on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
The Bears fell to 0-5 when they were defeated by Williams College, 33-14, at Kelly Gym.
Prior to the match, seniors Malcolm Chrispin (Hyde Park, Mass.), Sei Dolomengi (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Amauris Gomez (Lawrence, Mass.) and Alex Guaman Castro (Milford, Mass.) were honored.
BSU had three winners against Williams, including Dolomengi, freshman Ethan Buonanducci and junior Christian Curley (Bridgewater, Mass.).
Dolomengi closed out his home career with a technical fall victory (16-1, 2:54) over senior Lucas Johnson (Waterford, Wisc.) at 125 pounds. It was the 12th win of the season for Dolomengi.
Buonanducci was a 4-2 decision winner over freshman Jake Strianese (Oceanside, N.Y.) at 133 pounds. Buonanducci, who was ranked fifth in the most recent NWCA Region One Rankings, improved to 22-7 on the season. Strianese was ranked eighth.
At 197 pounds, Curley defeated junior David LaPrade (Washington, D.C.) by fall at 6:17. Curley is now 13-6. The bout featured the #7 and #8 ranked wrestlers in Region One for the 197-pound weight class.
Winning for the Ephs were junior Tylor Stubbs (Blue Bell, Pa.) over Chrispin at 141 pounds by a 9-7 decision and senior Caleb Seyfried (Westport, Conn.) by an 11-7 decision over junior Cqari Baacote (Springfield, Mass.) at 149 pounds. Seyfried entered the match ranked eighth in all of Division III in the 149-pound weight class while Stubbs was regionally ranked #7 at 141.
Williams freshman Leo Tansey (New York, N.Y.) decisioned freshman Avery Carl (Bridport, Vt.), 12-9, and sophomore Fisher Stites (Newtown, Conn.) won by fall at 1:37 over Guaman Castro.
Also winning for the Ephs was freshman Gage Wiggins (Sarasota, Fla.) by fall at 2:52 over junior Paul Hough (Milford, Mass.), and freshman heavyweight Connor Reynolds (Westfield, N.J.) by fall at 26 seconds over sophomore Anthony Ashe (Middleboro, Mass.).
The Ephs improved to 7-5 and are ranked 18th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association team tournament poll.
Next on BSU's schedule is the Wildcat Open, hosted by Johnson & Wales in Providence, R.I., on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
The Bears and Williams will take part in the New England Wrestling Association Dual Meet Tournament at Johnson & Wales a week from Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
