Curley, Buonanducci Place at Doug Parker Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Christian Curley (Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Ethan Buonanducci (Enfield, Conn.) each placed at the Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College on Saturday.

The Bears finished ninth in the team standings at the meet with 48.5 points. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy captured the team title with 167 points.

Curley placed second out of the 197-pound weight class as he went 3-1 on the day. The #2 seed opened the meet with a first period pin (2:55) of Wesleyan's Hamilton Tevis (Jr., Essex, Conn.).

Following a 15-6 major decision over Angelo Piazza (Gr., Glen Rock, N.J.) of Centenary, Curley advanced to the finals with a 14-7 decision against #3 seed Christian Maloy (Gr., Pocono Summit, Pa.) of Western New England.

In the championship match, Curley (7-3)  dropped a tough 6-3 decision to fourth-seeded Oliver Parker (Jr., Pawtucket, R.I.) of host Springfield.

The #4 seed in the 133-pound bracket, Buonanducci posted back-to-back decisions over Wesleyan's Taylor Tan (Fr., Rosemead, Calif.) and #5 seed Jake Strianese (Fr., Oceanside, N.Y.) of Williams to open the day before bowing to top-seed and two-time All-American Jake Craig (Sr.,  Norridgewock, Maine) of Southern Maine by major decision, 13-0.

Buonanducci (8-5) bounced back with a 7-5 decision against Matthew Carrozza (Sr., Brookfield, Conn.) of Trinity in the consolation semifinals to advance to the third-place match where he was edged by #6 seed Esuar Ordonez (So., Putnam Valley, N.Y.) of Springfield in a tie-breaker, 2-2 (TB2).

Senior Malcolm Chrispin (Hyde Park, Mass.), sophomore James Calabrese (Foxborough, Mass.), and freshmen Miguel Arcila Londono (Salem, Mass.) and Kamel Dib (Lincoln, R.I.) each went 3-2 competing at 141, 157, 149 and 149-pound weight classes, respectively.

Chrispin's three wins were all tech. falls by the combined score of 51-4.

The Bears are off until Friday, December 5th and Saturday, December 6th when they compete at the 54th Annual Messiah Petrofes Invitational in Grantham, Pennsylvania.
