PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Senior Michael Hopkins (Swampscott, Mass.) and sophomore Vincent Player (Duxbury, Mass.) earned all-regional honors on Sunday at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championships held at the Bacon Field House on the campus of Wesleyan University.
Hopkins finished in sixth place competing out of the 174-pound weight class with a 3-3 record over the two-day tournament. On Sunday, the 11th-seeded Hopkins cruised to an 18-2 (4:37) technical fall victory over #8 Henry Forte of Williams College before dropping a 5-0 decision to #2 Connor Gregory of Vermont State Castleton in the consolation semifinals. In the fifth-place match, Hopkins suffered a 3-0 setback to #3 Jayden Curley of Roger Williams University.
Hopkins wrapped up the 2024-2025 campaign with an overall record of 27-16 and has amassed 57 wins over four seasons with the Bears.
Player (5-6) also finished in sixth place competing out of the 184-pound weight class with a 3-3 record over the two-day tournament. On Sunday, the 12th-seeded Player pinned (1:14) #8 Jaylen Hawkins of Western New England University before losing by technical fall (15-0, 5:30) to #3 Gabe Monroe of U.S. Coast Guard Academy in the consolation semifinals. In the fifth-place match, Player dropped a 6-1 decision to #4 Tyler Miller of Plymouth State University.
Player recorded two wins by fall at the tournament. On Saturday, he pinned #5 Ky'ell Roper of nationally ranked Johnson & Wales University in his opening bout. Roper would battle back after the stunning setback to advance to the third-place match.
The Bears finished in 14th place in the team standings with 29 points.
