BRISTOL, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team won two of three matches on Saturday at a quad meet hosted by Roger Williams University.
The Bears (4-8) posted a 32-15 win over Plymouth State University and blanked Maine Maritime Academy, 58-0, before dropping a 41-4 decision to the host Hawks.
Sophomore Christian Curley (Bridgewater, Mass.) recorded three wins out of the 197-pound weight class including a 14-5 major decision over Roger Williams' Michael Toppan. Curley improves to 20-7 on the season as he is tied for the team lead in wins.
Junior Sei Dolomengi (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) went 2-0 at 125 as he earned a pair of wins by fall. Dolomengi (15-13) pinned Cam McMahon of Plymouth State at 1:18 of the first period and also recorded a first-period pin (1:40) of Trevor Llewleyn of Maine Maritime.
Junior 141-pounder Malcolm Chrispin (Hyde Park, Mass.) moved up a weight class to earn a 5-0 decision over PSU's Damari Goldsmith-Greene. Chrispin (14-7) then cruised to a 15-0 (2:25) technical fall victory at 141 over Gavin Ripley of Maine Martitime.
Senior Michael Hopkins (Swampscott, Mass.) went 2-1 at 174 with a pair of 15-0 technical fall wins over Plymouth's Cooper Carlson (2:17) and Maritime's Kyle Stickel (3:56). Hopkins dropped an 8-1 decision to RWU's Jayden Curley who was ranked sixth in the most recent New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Individual Rankings. Hopkins (20-13) is tied with Christian Curley for the team lead in wins.
Freshman heavyweight Mathew Piper (Townsend, Mass.) pinned Colin Hile of Plymouth State with 43 seconds remaining in the third period. Piper (8-6) also added a forfeit victory against Maine Maritime as he went 2-0 on the day.
The Bears are back in action next Saturday when they take on New York University and Hunter College at a meet hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
