BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Michael Hopkins (Swampscott, Mass.) and Christian Curley (Bridgewater, Mass.) were two winners for the Bridgewater State University wrestling team in its 42-9 loss to Williams College on Senior Day at John J. Kelly Gymnasium.
Hopkins, a senior who was honored prior to the start of the match, won a 7-4 decision over Sean Tasney at 174 pounds in the Bears' first home match since Nov. 16 against Western New England University.
Curley, a sophomore, won by fall at 3:19 against Max Hall at 197 pounds.
Hopkins and Curley are tied for the BSU lead with 14 victories this season.
Winners for Williams (7-5) included freshman Christoper Colon (Shoreham, N.Y.) at 125 pounds, senior Jack Napeloni (Denville, N.J.) at 133, sophomore Taylor Stubbs (Blue Bell, Pa.) at 141, sophomore Leonardo Maiuolo (San Jose, Calif.) at 149, junior Peter Kane (Fairfield, Conn.) at 157, freshman Fisher Stites (Newtown, Conn.) at 165, sophomore Zach Borzio (Quakertown, Pa.) at 184 and senior Thomas Goodwin (Pompton, Plains, N.J.) at heavyweight.
Six of the Ephs' eight wins were by pin (4) or technical fall (2).
BSU will take part in the Wildcat Open, hosted by Johnson & Wales, on Saturday at 9 a.m. and will be in the New England Wrestling Association Duals, also at Johnson & Wales, next Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
Williams will also be in the NEWA Duals.
