Sophia Fleurent Named MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore midfielder Sophia Fleurent has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.

A native of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, Fleurent notched six goals and three assists for nine points to go along with five ground balls, eight draw controls and four caused turnovers in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears.

Fleurent tallied four goals, an assist, a pair of ground balls, a draw control and two caused turnovers in a 16-10 non-conference victory over UMass Dartmouth. She also scored two goals and dished out two assists while adding three ground balls, seven draw controls and two caused turnovers in a 16-2 MASCAC win over Anna Maria College.

Through nine games this seeason, Fleurent has recorded 15 goals and six assists for 20 points as well as 16 ground balls, 45 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers. She currently leads the MASCAC in draw controls and is tied for fourth in caused turnovers.

In 26 games over her first two seasons with the Bears, Fleurent has amassed 19 goals and six assists for 25 points in addition to 129 draw controls, 24 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers as well as nine goals and two assists.

The conference weekly honor marks the second of Fleurent's career as she was also selected MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week back on March 2nd.

The BSU women's lacrosse team is currently 3-6 on the season and 1-0 in the MASCAC. The Bears travel to Plymouth State University on Tuesday afternoon for a four o'clock game with the Panthers.
