PAXTON, Mass. -- Senior Meredith Sylvia (Dartmouth, Mass.) scored four goals to lead the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to its second straight win Saturday afternoon.

Sylvia notched four goals for the third time this season as the Bears defeated Anna Maria College, 16-2, in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener at Caparso Field.

The win was the 99th in the career of BSU head coach Erica Adams.

It marked the first time this season that BSU (3-6) has won back-to-back games.

Anna Maria, in its first season in the MASCAC, fell to 1-8 with its fifth straight loss.

Sylvia added two assists and leads the team with 18 goals and 22 points.

Sophomores Sophia Fleurent (Fairhaven, Mass.), Lizzy Deacon (Amesbury, Mass.) and Taylor Carter (East Walpole, Mass.) plus senior Katie Lamothe (Dartmouth, Mass.) each scored two goals. Fleurent had two assists while the other three each had an assist.

BSU opened a 9-0 lead after one period with Sylvia scoring all four of her goals, including three in the opening 4:56.

Lamothe and Deacon had two goals each in the period while sophomore Kallie Rose (Dartmouth, Mass.) also scored.

Goals by Fleurent, junior Erin Henn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Carter helped put BSU up, 12-1, at halftime with Megan Tegethoff () scoring for the AMCATS.

The lead was 14-1 after three period following goals by Fleurent and Carter.

Sophomore Jade Munoz (Mendon, Mass.) and freshman Eva Nunes (Whitman, Mass.) had fourth-period goals for BSU while Tegethoff added an unassisted goal for Anna Maria.

Sophomore Sara Skaff (Lowell, Mass.) got the start between the pipes for Bridgewater State and did not face a shot in her 15 minutes of work.

Sophomore goalkeeper Riley Guenette (Johnston, R.I.) played the middle two periods while junior Gianna Scarpelli (Medford, Mass.) came on to start the fourth quarter and finished things off.

The Bears had a 34-7 edge in shots and 28-2 in shots on goals. BSU had 13 draw controls to three for the AMCATS and a 29-11 advantage in groundballs. Fleurent led all players with seven draw controls.

BSU is on the road Tuesday at 4 p.m. when it plays Plymouth State.

Anna Maria is idle until Saturday when it goes against Salem State at noon.
