BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior guard Sophie Bradbury has been selected as the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week.
A native of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Bradbury averaged 28 points, five rebounds (two offensive), 4.5 assists and 2.5 assists in a 1-1 week for the Bears last week while shooting 58.3% (21- 36) from the floor, 52.9% (9-17) from three-points range and 83.3% (5-6) at the free throw line.
Bradbury scored a career-high 37 points to go along with four rebounds (two offensive), six assists, three steals and a blocked shot in a 77-70 win over Framingham State as the Bears secured the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season title outright and the top seed in this week's MASCAC Tournament. She also notched 19 points, six rebounds (two offensive), three assists and two steals in an 81-72 conference road setback to Worcester State
Through 25 games this season, including 21 starts, Bradbury is averaging 11.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.8 steals while shooting 29.7% (41-138) from behind the arc and 65.5% (38-58) at the free throw line. She is currently tied for fourth in the MASCAC in made three-pointers and ranks sixth in both assists and three-point shooting as well as seventh in made field goals and eighth in scoring.
Earlier this week, Bradbury also garnered MASCAC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
The BSU women's basketball team wrapped up regular season player with an overall record of 15-10 with a 13-1 mark in MASCAC play. The Bears are the top seed in this week's MASCAC Tournament and will host a semifinal round game on Friday evening at 5:30.
