BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior forward Shelly DePina has been selected to the 2011-2012 D3hoops.com Women's All-Northeast Region Third Team.
DePina wrapped up an outstanding four-year career at Bridgewater State as she helped lead the Bears to their second straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament championship and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance.
The New Bedford, Massachusetts native averaged 14.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.6 blocked shots in 27 games this season, while shooting 43% (143-33) from the floor, 71% (73-103) at the free throw line and 33% (38-117) from three-point range.
DePina, who is one of three players from the MASCAC voted to the All-Northeast Region Team, finished second in the conference in blocks, fourth in three-point shooting and fifth in scoring. She was also sixth in field goal percentage, seventh in made three-pointers, ninth in steals and tenth in rebounding.
The Bridgewater State University women's basketball team finished the season with a record of 19-8. The Bears captured their third MASCAC regular season title in the last five years.
In 101 games over four seasons with the Bears, DePina amassed 1,162 points, 698 rebounds, 101 assists, 93 blocks and 196 steals. She ranks fourth all-time at BSU in scoring and third in rebounds.
Players were nominated for the 11th annual D3hoops.com all-region teams by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools. There were 683 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
Regions that have fewer than 40 Division III teams have two teams. The Northeast, which is nearly twice that size, has four teams, while all other regions have three teams.
