BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior forward Michaela Cosby has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week. Cosby shares the weekly honor along with Salem State junior guard Bridget Dullea.
A native of Walpole, Massachusetts, Cosby scored 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds and recorded five steals in the Bears’ 78-59 victory at previously unbeaten Fitchburg State last week. She also shot 57 percent (8-14) from field and connected on five of six free throw attempts in the contest.
Through 11 games this season, Cosby is averaging 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 54.9% (62-113) from the floor and 79.7% (47-59) at the charity stripe. She is currently second in the MASCAC in field goal percentage and ranks third in the conference in free throw percentage, fourth in scoring, fifth in steals and seventh in offensive rebounds (2.8 per game).
Cosby has amassed 533 points, 332 rebounds, 122 assists and 111 steals in 60 games over her first three seasons at Bridgewater State. She is a presently the Bears’ all-time leader in field goal percentage with a career mark of 51.3% (202-394).
The BSU women’s basketball is 6-5 on the season with a 1-0 mark in MASCAC play. The Bears host conference foe Framingham State on Tuesday evening at 5:30 followed by a non-conference matchup at home against UMass Boston on Thursday night at 7:30. Bridgewater caps off the week with a three o’clock MASCAC game with Westfield State on Saturday also at the Tinsley Center.
