BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman first baseman Morgan Cournoyer has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Rookie of the Week.
Cournoyer batted .727 (8-for-11) with a home run, a double, three walks, five runs scored and two RBI in a perfect 4-0 week for the Bears. The Burrillville, Rhode Island native also posted an impressive .800 on base percentage and a 1.091 slugging percentage.
Cournoyer went 4-for-5 with three walks and four runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of Westfield State, and 4-for-6 with a homer, a double, a run and two RBI in another sweep of the Owls.
In 16 games this season, Cournoyer is batting .425 (17-40) with two home runs, a pair of doubles, nine runs scored and five RBI.
Cournoyer currently leads the MASCAC with a .558 on base percentage as well as being hit by a pitch (5). She is also second in the conference in batting, sixth in slugging percentage (.625), tied for sixth in walks (7) and tied for eighth in home runs.
The MASCAC weekly honor marks the first of Cournoyer's career.
The BSU softball team is currently 12-7-1 on the season and 5-2-1 in the MASCAC. The Bears travel to Fitchburg State University on Friday afternoon for a two o'clock MASCAC doubleheader with the Falcons.
