BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior right-hander Amber White has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Player & Pitcher of the Week.
The MVP of the 2013 MASCAC Tournament, White went 3-1 in the circle with one save and three complete games as she led the Bears to the program’s eighth tournament title. The Middleboro, Massachusetts native posted an impressive 0.25 earned run average and fanned 27 batters in 28 innings of work.
White tossed pair of complete games, including a 2-0 shutout, in a championship round sweep of MCLA. The MASCAC Pitcher of the Year also registered six strikeouts in a 3-2 complete game win over Fitchburg State and fanned 12 batters in a 2-0 semifinal round setback to MCLA.
With the MASCAC Tournament championship, the BSU softball team will advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 21st time in program history. The Bears are seeded sixth at the New England Regional and will take on third-seeded and host Babson College on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
In 25 appearances this season including 23 starts, White has posted a record of 15-6 with 19 complete games, nine shutouts and a 0.63 ERA. She has fanned 133 batters in 155 2/3 innings, walked only 13, and opponents are batting just .168 against her.
White currently ranks among the top ten in Division III in ERA and fewest walks allowed per seven innings (0.58). She is also in the top 15 in shutouts and fewest hits allowed per seven innings (4.36).
In 54 appearances over two seasons with the Bears, White has produced a record of 31-12 with 38 complete games, 15 shutouts, four saves and a 1.18 ERA. She also has 265 strikeouts in 351 1/3 innings of work. White’s 265 career punch-outs is good for eighth all-time at BSU.
