Jennifer Shaw Named MASCAC Softball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior Jennifer Shaw has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Player of the Week.

Shaw batted .529 (18-34) with six home runs, four doubles, eight runs scored and 23 RBI over the Bears first 12 games of the 2012 campaign. The Brockton, Massachusetts native also walked seven times as she posted a .610 on base percentage, and accumulated 40 total bases in 34 at bats for an impressive 1.176 slugging percentage.

In the field, Shaw played flawless defense at third base as she did not commit an error in 35 chances to start the season.

During Bridgewater’s Spring Break trip to Fort Myers, Florida, Shaw homered and drove in five runs in a 7-0 shutout Alverno College, and went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI in a 12-11 win versus RIT.  The Bears’ third baseman also went 3-for-3, homered twice and drove in a career high eight runs in a 12- 4 triumph over Penn State Behrend, and concluded the trip by going 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI in an 8-1 victory over Rockford College.

In 71 games over her first three seasons with the Bears, Shaw has posted a career .390 (71-182) batting average with 14 home runs, 14 doubles, 43 runs scored and 63 RBI to go along with a .709 slugging percentage and a .448 on base percentage.

Last season, Shaw earned All-New England first team honors for three different organizations (ECAC, NEISCA, NFCA) and was named to the MASCAC All-Conference First Team as she batted .394 (37-94) with eight home runs, eight doubles, 28 runs scored and 32 RBI.

The Bridgewater State softball team is currently 10-2 on the season.  The Bears entertain the Lyons of Wheaton College in a non-conference twinbill on Tuesday afternoon beginning at three o’clock.
