2012 All-MASCAC Softball Team (PDF)
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Junior third baseman Jennifer Shaw (New Bedford, Mass.) earned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player of the Year honors and sophomore right-hander Amber White (Middleboro, Mass.) was selected as the Co-Pitcher of the Year to highlight Bridgewater State's five representatives on the 2012 All-MASCAC Softball Team.
Joining Shaw and White on the All-MASCAC First Team is junior catcher Brianna Strecker (Colchester, Conn.). Second Team honorees are junior left fielder Melissa Harmon (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and sophomore designated player Jasmyn McCone (Taunton, Mass.).
Shaw batted .402 (49-122) with nine home runs, 12 doubles, 31 runs scored and 39 RBI in 42 games for the Bears this season. She led the MASCAC in runs batted in, doubles, slugging percentage (.738) and on base percentage (.486), and finished second home runs and total bases (90), fourth in runs and walks (20), and sixth in hits.
White went 16-6 with three saves, 19 complete games and six shutouts in 29 appearances for the Bears in 2012. She posted a 1.71 earned run average and fanned 132 batters in 159 innings of work while holding opponents to a .202 batting average. White led the conference in ERA, saves, innings pitched and appearances, and ranked second in wins, shutouts, starts and complete games. She was also third in batting average against and fourth in strikeouts.
Strecker registered a .304 batting average (38-125) with five home runs, ten doubles, 29 runs scored, 26 RBI and 11 stolen bases as she started all 42 games behind the plate. Strecker finished fourth in the MASCAC in home runs, fifth in doubles and runs batted in, seventh in total bases (63) and eighth in slugging percentage. She also tied for sixth in runs and eighth in stolen bases.
Harmon batted .323 (32-99) over 42 games with four homers, eight doubles, 16 runs and 21 RBI. Harmon ranked sixth in the conference in slugging percentage (.525) and tied for fifth in home runs and tied for ninth in doubles.
McCone also appeared in all 42 games as she finished with a .291 (30-103) batting average, two home runs, five doubles, a pair of triples, 25 runs and 18 RBI.
The Bridgewater State softball team posted a record of 29-13 with an 11-3 mark in the MASCAC. Seeded second in the double-elimination conference tournament, the Bears blanked eventual champion Salem State, 4-0, in opening round play before dropping a 4-0 decision to Westfield State in the winner's bracket final and a 7-5 decision to Salem in an elimination game.
