Men's Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Pair of Meets

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's track & field team opened the outdoor season at a pair of meets on Friday.

The majority of the team competed at the Jonathan Tymann Invitational hosted by Gordon College while three Bears ran at the Emory Thrills in the Hills in Atlanta, Georgia.

At Emory, senior Kyle Ackroyd (Charlestown, R.I.) placed tenth in the 5,000-meter run with a career-best outdoor time of 15:30.18 while junior Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.) and graduate student Landon Crowley (West Bridgewater, Mass.) finished 22nd (22.28) and 39th (22.84), respectively, in the 200-meter dash.

The Bear had four second-place finishers at the Jonathan Tymann Invitational.

Sophomore Joshua Cardichon (Brockton, Mass.), senior Colin Daly (Easton, Mass.) and junior Kaelan McDonald (Washington, Conn.) were all second in their individual events at Gordon College.

The 4x400-meter relay team also finished second.

Cardichon ran the 400-meter race in 51.60, just behind winner Jair Oliva of Hudson Valley Community College.

Daly threw the hammer 137 feet, one inch (41.79m) for his second-place finish while McDonald was the runnerup in the javelin with a personal-best toss of 156 feet, nine inches (47.78m).

The relay team consisted of seniors Chris Beaulieu (Monson, Mass.), Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.) and Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) plus sophomore Drew Alves (Taunton, Mass.). Their time was 3:30.99.

King placed third in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.90 seconds while freshman Tyler Amaral (Dartmouth, Mass.) was fourth in the 5,000 in 15:58.97, ahead of teammate Mitchell Parent, a senior from Cumberland Center, Maine, who was sixth in 16:04.20.

In the shot put invite, freshman Jayvon Lodge (Brockton, Mass.) finished fifth with a heave of 41 feet, 2 1/2 inches (12.56m) while freshman Christopher Williams (Burlington, Mass.) was ninth (39'8.75"/12.11m) and junior Chandler Doehler (Berkley, Mass.) was tenth (39'4.5"/12.00m).

Also recording fifth-place finishes were senior Dasean Peters-Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) with a time of 11.62 seconds in the 100 and freshman Mason Veits (Tewksbury, Mass.) in the pole vault (10'6"/3.20m).

Sophomore Jaime Corral (Gardner, Mass.) was sixth in the 200 with a time of 23.56 and freshman Sam Chaple (Townsend, Mass.) was seventh in the 400 with a time of 54.06.

Also, freshman Gavin McElwee (Halifax, Mass.) took eighth in the javelin (137'4"/41.87m) while junior Brian Vale (Assonet, Mass.) was eighth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:22.38.

BSU will be at the Amherst Spring Fling on April 4 at 10 a.m.
