McBirney, Pastor Norales Earn All-New England Honors

BOSTON, Mass. -- Two members of the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team received All-New England recognition on Sunday.

Graduate student Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Clayton Pastor Norales (New Bedford, Mass.) were honored for their performances at the Division III New England Championships at The Track at New Balance.

McBirney finished fifth in the 800 with a time of 1:52.25 to continue his sensational final season.

Pastor Norales took eighth in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, six inches (6.55m).

The Bears had three All-New England honorees over the weekend as sophomore Drew Alves (Taunton, Mass.) finished eighth in the heptathlon which took place on Friday and Saturday.

The top eight finishers received All-New England recognition.

BSU was tied for 21st in the team standings with six points. Amherst won the meet title with 103 points followed by Tufts University (101.5 pts.) in second place and MIT (97.5 pts.) in third.

Junior Aydan Fournier (Assonet, Mass.) joined McBirney in the 800 and finished 14th in 1:54.63.

Junior Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.) was 17th in the 200 in 22.22.

Senior Kyle Ackroyd (Charlestown, R.I.) was 21st in the 5,000 with a time of 15:30.27.

Competing in the 60 hurdles preliminary race were graduate student Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) and senior Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.).

Adigwe was 12th in 8.51 and King was 19th in 8.66.

Graduate student Landon Crowley (West Bridgewater, Mass.) ran 7.10 in the 60 dash preliminary race but did not qualify for the final.

The Bears will be represented at the NEICAAA Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
