BOSTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team had an individual winner along with a record-breaking performance at two meets Sunday.
Graduate student Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) placed first in the 60-meter hurdles at the USATF New England Championships held at Harvard University.
Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.), also a graduate student, broke his own school record in the 800-meter race at the Saucony Battle For Boston at Boston University on Sunday night.
Adigwe was first in 8.42 seconds, defeating Kevin Yatsuhashi of the Old Goat Track Club, who finished in 8.50.
McBirney finished 14th in the 800 with a time of 1:51.02.
That broke his own BSU record of 1:51.79, which was established earlier this season at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, also at BU.
Teammate Aydan Fournier (Assonet, Mass.) was 19th in the 800 in 1:54.62.
Also at the meet at Harvard, BSU freshman Clayton Pastor Norales (New Bedford, Mass.) was third in the long jump (20 feet, 11 and 1/4 inches).
Senior Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) was sixth out of 14 competitors in the 60 hurdles (8.77) and 16th in the long jump (17 feet, 10 and 1/2 inches).
The Bears had three of the top eight finishers in the 400 at the Saucony Battle For Boston meet.
Senior Chris Beaulieu (Monson, Mass.) was fifth in a PR of 50.21 seconds followed by senior Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.), who was seventh in a career-best time of 50.94, and freshman Sean Venator (Manchester, N.H.), who placed eighth in a PR of 51.18.
Also at BU, two Bears were in the top seven in the 200.
Junior Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.) was fourth in 22.28 in a race won by Ceasar Flahn of Manchester Central with a time of 22.06.
Senior graduate student Landon Crowley (West Bridgewater, Mass.) of BSU was seventh in 22.47.
In upcoming action, qualifying members of the BSU men's indoor track & field team will compete next weekend at the Division III New England Championships held at The Track at New Balance.
