BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Kevin McBirney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

A native of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, McBirney placed eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.51 this past weekend at the Emory Thrills in the Hills in Atlanta, Georgia.

McBirney is currently ranked 26th in all of Division III in the 800 and second in the East Region.

The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor marks the 14th of McBirney's career including five outdoor distinctions. He has also earned MASCAC Runner of the Week accolades nine times over the past two cross country seasons.

The outdoor season continues for the men's track & field team on Saturday as the Bears will compete at the Amherst Spring Fling. A few javelin throwers will compete on Friday at the Regis Spring Classic.
