BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Alex Huynh has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week.

A resident of Stoughton, Massachusetts, Huynh placed second in the high jump  with a leap of six feet, 6.75 inches (2.00m) and seventh in the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 4.5 inches (6.82m) this past weekend at the Emory Thrills in the Hills in Atlanta, Georgia.

Huynh is currently ranked 12th in all of Division III in the high jump (first in the East Region) and 30th in the long jump (3rd in the East Region).

The MASCAC Rookie of the Week honor marks the ninth of the academic year for Huynh who also garnered the accolade eight times during the indoor season.

The outdoor season continues for the men's track & field team on Saturday as the Bears will compete at the Amherst Spring Fling. A few javelin throwers will compete on Friday at the Regis Spring Classic.
