Adigwe Earns All-New England Honors to Lead Men’s Track & Field at DIII New Englands

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) earned All-New England honors to lead the Bridgewater State University men's track & field team during day two of the 2023 Division III New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Springfield College.

Adigwe placed fifth in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 14.58 seconds.

Freshman Michael Neitlich (Middleboro, Mass.) and sophomore Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) posted career-best times in the 400-meter hurdles and 1,500-meter run, respectively. Neitlich posted a time of 56.41 second to finish 17th in the hurdles, while McBirney finished 17th in the 1,500 with a time of 3:57.47.

Neitlich, McBirney and sophomores Stephen Spofford (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Charles Dakai (Millville, Mass.) finished 11th in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:28.55.

Senior Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) and graduate student Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) finished 19th (22.44) and 20th (22.45), respectively, in the 200-meter dash.

The quartet of sophomore Kenny Goodwin (Chelmsford, Mass.), senior Jack Owen (Weymouth, Mass.), junior Sam Steere (West Kingston, R.I.) and sophomore Ryan Vautrinot (Kingston, Mass.) finished 13th in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:29.23.

In Saturday's field events, senior Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) and junior Jason Dann (Reading, Mass.) finished 14th (133'11"/40.82m) and 22nd (126'2"/38.47m), respectively, in the discus throw.

Senior Jack Galvin (Braintree, Mass.) finished 14th in the shot put with a toss of 44 feet, 6.75 inches (13.58m), while junior Thomas Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass) finished 15th in the high jump with a leap of six feet, 1.25 inches (1.86m).

The Bears finished in 14th place in the team standings with 20 points. MIT captured the meet title with 143 points followed by UMass Dartmouth (71 pts.) in second place and Bates College (60 pts.) in third.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU men's track & field team will compete at the NEICAAA Championships hosted by Northeastern University.
