Men's Track & Field Places 4th at Silfen Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team finished in fourth place at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday at the Silfen Field & Track.

Senior Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) captured top honors in the javelin with a distance of 189 feet, eight inches (57.82m). Stalters also finish sixth in the shot put (42'10.25"/13.06m).

Sophomore Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.44 seconds.

Freshman Michael Neitlich (Middleboro, Mass.) posted a second-place performance in the 400-meter hurdles as he recorded a time of 56.94 seconds. Neitlich also ran a leg on the Bears' third-place 4x400-meter relay (3:30.65) along with classmates Chris Beaulieu (Monson, Mass.), Drew Roberts (Manchester, N.H.) and Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.).

Senior Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) placed third in the 200-meter dash with a collegiate-best mark of 22.51 seconds.

Junior Thomas Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed third in the 110 hurdles with a career-best time of 15.63 seconds. Barinelli also finished fifth in the high jump (6'0.75'/1.85m).

Junior Jason Dann (Reading, Mass.) and senior Jack Galvin (Braintree, Mass.) finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the hammer throw. Dann posted a career-best toss of 155 feet, 11 inches (47.52m), while Galvin recorded a collegiate-best mark of 146 feet, two inches (44.56m).

Stalters (JAV), Adigwe (110H), Neitlich (400H), Matias (200), Barinelli (110H) and Dann (HT) all recorded qualifying times or marks for the Division III New England Championships.

The Bears recorded 82 points at the meet. Springfield College won the meet with 152 points, while host Conn. College (92 pts.) and Trinity College (84 pts.) rounded out the top three teams.

The BSU outdoor track & field teams compete next Saturday at the Tufts Sunshine Classic.
