BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Michael McPherson has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.

McPherson capped off a terrific two-year career at Bridgewater State by garnering All-American honors in the shot put at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships held last week at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.  The Mansfield, Massachusetts native recorded a school record-setting toss of 56 feet, three inches (17.14 meters) to finish fourth in the event.

McPherson was making his second straight appearance at the outdoor championships and third consecutive at an NCAA event.  Last spring, he earned All-American honors as he placed eighth in the shot put at the 2012 outdoor championships.  McPherson also finished tenth in the shot at the indoor championships back in March.

All told, McPherson earned MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades nine times in just two years at BSU including four during the outdoor seasons.

Along with his outdoor shot put record, McPherson also holds the school indoor standard in the shot put (55’8.50”) as well as the outdoor mark in the hammer throw (172’2’).
