NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Michael McPherson (Mansfield, Mass) captured the shot put title during day one of the ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the New Balance Armory.
McPherson, who won the event with a toss of 55 feet, 0.75 inches (16.78 meters), currently ranks 11th in all of Division III in the shot put. He posted his season-best distance of 55 feet, 8.5 inches earlier this season at the Harvard Open. McPherson could potentially compete at the NCAA Division III Championships next weekend at North Central College as the top 13 in each event advance to the national meet.
Stephan Cawley (Dedham, Mass) also earned All-ECAC honors as he placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 49 feet, 9.50 inches (15.02 meters).
The Bears' relay team of Timothy Judge (East Bridgewater, Mass), Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass), Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass), and Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass) garnered All-ECAC honors with a third place showing in the 4 x 200 while also breaking the school record as they posted a time of 1:29.45. The previous mark of 1:31.68 was set earlier this season by the same foursome.
On Saturday, the BSU men's indoor track and field team will have numerous individuals and relay teams competing at the Armory track.
