BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University junior Stephen Wahome has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Wahome finished second in the 10,000-meter run and broke a 28-year old BSU school record to earn All-ECAC honors at the ECAC Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by RPI last week. The Lowell, Massachusetts native posted a time of 31:17.02 to better Dan Murphy's 1984 program mark of 31:24.00.
The Bears' 4 x 800-meter relay team featuring Wahome, classmate Aaron Landau (Millis, Mass.), sophomore Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.) and freshman Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) knocked off the school record and finished eighth at the meet with an All-ECAC time of 7:52.81. They eclipsed the 2010 mark of 7:57.57.
Earlier this season, Wahome captured the MASCAC individual title in the 5,000-meter run and garnered All-New England Division III accolades in the 4 x 800.
Along with his two BSU outdoor records, Wahome also holds indoor marks in the 3,000 (8:43.42), 5,000 (14:54.12), 4 x 800 (7:57.94) and distance medley relay (10:23.71).
