NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Sophomore Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.) and the women's 4 x 800 relay both earned All-ECAC honors and set school records to lead the Bridgewater State University track team and field teams during day two of the ECAC Division III Indoor Championships on Saturday at the Armory in New York.
Sukeforth posted a time of 2:29.69 in the 1,000 to finish third in the event as he eclipsed his previous standard of 2:32.08 set earlier this season. He also grabbed the eighth spot in the mile run crossing the line in 4:17.35.
The Bears' 4 x 800 relay team of seniors Melissa Harris (Uxbridge, Mass.) and Sarah Lagasse (Rehoboth, Mass.) and juniors Megan Cullinane (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Molly Rouillard (Dartmouth, Mass.) shattered the 2011 mark of 9:42.75 by more than ten seconds. They recorded a time of 9:32.53 to place third at the meet.
Freshman Justin Powell (Brockton, Mass.) tied for fifth in the high jump with a leap of six feet, 3.50 inches as he also took home All-ECAC honors.
The BSU men's team finished 26th overall (12.2 pts.) in the team standings, while the women's squad tied for 32nd place (9 pts.).
All told, seven school indoor records fell during the two-day ECAC Championships.
