SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Michael McPherson (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshman Christian Lavoie (Marion, Mass.) earned All-New England honors to lead the Bridgewater State University Bears at the Division III New England Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Springfield College.
McPherson placed fourth in the shot put with a distance of 49 feet, 10.50 inches (15.20 meters) while Lavoie finished seven with a toss of 47 feet, 6.25 inches (14.48 meters). Top eight placewinners in each event earn All-New England status.
Lavoie also qualified in the shot put for the ECAC Division III Championship meet.
Freshman Justin Powell (Brockton, Mass.) broke the BSU school record in the high jump with a leap of six feet, 2.25 inches as he placed ninth overall. Powell eclipsed Nicholas Ferrara's 2010 mark of six feet, 1.25 inches.
Freshman Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) placed tenth in the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:24.13.
The Bears finished 19th in the team scoring with six points. Bates College captured the team title with 103 points followed by MIT (95 pts.) and Tufts University (89 pts.).
