Four School Records Fall as Men's Track Places 3rd at MASCAC Championships

GORHAM, Maine – Four school records fell as the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track and field team competed at the MASCAC Championships hosted by the University of Southern Maine on Saturday.

The Bears finished third in the standings with 95 team points.  Westfield State won the meet with 188 points followed by Worcester State with 167.

Junior Michael McPherson (Mansfield, Mass.) won the MASCAC shot put title and also broke his own school record in the event with a distance of 50 feet, 4.50 inches (15.35 meters).  McPherson surpassed his previous best of 50 feet, 0.75 inches set earlier this season.

Sophomore Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.) won the MASCAC title in the 1,000-meter run and surpassed his own school record in the event with a time of 2:32.08.  Sukeforth bested his previous standard of 2:32.08 set earlier this season.

Sophomore Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) captured the MASCAC title and broke his own school record in the triple jump with a leap of 44 feet, 8.25 inches (13.62 meters).  Danner-Hicks eclipsed his 2010 mark of 44 feet, 2.00 inches.

Junior Stephen Wahome (Lowell, Mass.) set a new school record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:45.74  as he placed third in the event.  Wahome broke Avery Bouchard's 2008 mark of 8:45.98.  Junior David Phipps (Attleboro, Mass.) qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 3,000 with a time of 8:48.86. as he finished fourth.

The Bears' 4 x 800-meter relay consisting of Sukeforth, Wahome, freshmen Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) and Brendan Zielinski (Bethel, Conn.) placed first in the event and set a new MASCAC meet record with a time of 8:09.12.
