McPherson Sets Shot Put Mark to Lead Men's Track & Field at Tufts Stampede

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Michael McPherson (Mansfield, Mass.) broke his own school record in the shot put to lead the BSU men's indoor track and field team at the Tufts Stampede on Saturday.

The Bears placed fourth out of 22 schools in the team scoring with 53 points.

McPherson placed first in the shot put at the meet with a distance of 50 feet, 0.75 inches (15.26 meters) as he eclipsed his previous standard of 49 feet, 9.25 inches set earlier this season.  McPherson posted an 11th place showing in the weight throw (46'0.50") as well.

Sophomore Andy Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.) also won an event for the Bears as he was the first to cross the line in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.53.  Freshman teammate Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) finished second in the 800 checking in at 1:59.19.

The Bears will compete in the MASCAC/Alliance Championships next weekend at Southern Maine.
