MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Sophomore Stephan Cawley (Dedham, Mass.) captured first place and set the Bridgewater State indoor mark in the shot put to lead the men's indoor track and field team at the non-scoring Wesleyan Invitational III on Saturday.
Cawley posted a distance of 48'0" (14.63m) in the shot put breaking the previous BSU standard of 47'2.5" set by Chris Clark in 2007.
Sophomore Felix Mensah (Lowell, Mass.) placed second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.61 seconds and also finished 13th in the 200-meter dash (23.85 seconds). Freshman Joseph Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) added a sixth place finish in the long jump (19'9.5") and a seventh place showing in the 55-meter dash (6.89 seconds).
Freshman Matt Horan (Billerica, Mass.) was the second sprinter to cross the line in the 55-meter hurdles (8.03 seconds), while fellow rookie Andrew Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.) placed fifth in the 600-meter run (1:26.48).
Other noteworthy performances include junior Michael Sukeforth (Middleboro, Mass.) who was seventh in the 600-meter run (1:27.21) and classmate Jeff Sousa (North Dighton, Mass.) who placed eighth in the 3,000-meter run (9:28.47). Freshman Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) added a sixth place finish in the triple jump (41'4.25").
The Bears will compete in the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University next Saturday.
