Men's Track Competes at N.E. Division III Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College men's track and field team tied for 25th place at the New England Division III Championships on Saturday hosted by Springfield College.

Williams College was the team champion with 136.66 points followed by MIT (108) and Springfield College (56).

Freshman Bill Taft (Hanson, MA) scored in the meet for the Bears and earned All-New England honors as he placed eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:48.00.

Junior Nick Ferrara (Swansea, MA) had the next best finish behind Taft as he posted an 11th place showing in the high jump (5'10.75").

Junior Kevin White (Swansea, MA) finished 12th in the 110-meter hurdles (:16.26) and 17th in the 400-meter hurdles (:58.92).  White also ran a leg on the Bears' 4 x 400-meter relay squad which placed 22nd in the event with a time of 3:36.14.  Senior Tim Barrow (Woburn, MA), junior Dean Lucier (Whitman, MA) and sophomore Ryan D'Arcangelo (Norfolk, MA) competed in the relay along with White.

Rounding out the competitors at the New England championships was senior Brian Stewart (Scituate, MA).  Stewart was 16th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:06.84.
